There is something to be said for staying prepared.
Even if you are of a peaceable temperament (more naturally inclined towards defense rather than offense, so to speak), your claws are still there.
And you still know how to use them.
Just in case.
Plus, it can be a great self-esteem booster to look down and admire your five perfect sharp gleaming claws on each front foot….and your three long and curved claws on each back foot.
