When you’ve never known life without having a shell of your very own, it is hard to imagine what it might be like not to have one.

Right from birth, your shell has been your refuge.

It is there whenever you need it.

Tired? Cold? Scared? Just sit down, pull in and your shell’s got your back.

Not to mention all the rest of you.

Once you decide to join an interspecies flock, however, you learn that there is one drawback to having a shell.

It is only big enough for you.

So when somebody you care about – like your large shell-less rescue mommy – is having one of those “I need a shell” moments, you can’t just invite her inside yours.

She won’t fit.

But you can do the next best thing to sharing your shell.

You can let her pat your soft, soft neck skin.

Your rescue mama might be a tad (or a lot) too large to fit inside your shell with you. But she can pat your soft, soft neck skin, which always makes her feel much better.
