Getting ready for hibernation can be intense….even grueling.

But there is no reason it can’t be fun too!

For example, let’s say your large shell-less brumation assistant brings home some particularly groovy new hibernation material.

From the start you know you are going to like it – as it turns out, hay’s natural coloration sets off your signature 3 toed box turtle olive shell to perfection!

But there are other perks just waiting to be discovered.

Hay is densely insulating without being suffocating.

It offers optimal camouflage (see “natural coloration” above for more on this).

Best of all, when you are ready to come out and take a brumation break (such as when the weather temporarily warms up a bit) all you have to do is slide down your hay pile!
