From time to time, I work with an animal communicator just to check in with each one of my interspecies flock members to make sure I’m doing a good job as their mama.
Every time we have a session together, I always learn so much! Each flock member always has plenty to say and expresses strong opinions about certain topics.
Sometimes I am more concerned about one flock member than the others, and this was the case in our most recent session. Bruce had just emerged from his winter hibernation and he wasn’t eating much.
The less he ate, the more I worried. I dangled all of his favorites in front of him. Mealworms. Earthworms. Organic steamed salmon. Organic sustainably caught tuna. Escargot.
I even went down to the local feed store and bought some fish chow (rumor has it a local breeder’s shells come running when he shakes a bag of this stuff in their direction).
No dice. Every so often he would nibble a bit of mango and that was all I got.
So imagine my surprise when the animal communicator said Bruce had put in a request for….edible grasses?!
Like – huh? I had already planted a bunch of pricey lettuces all around his enclosure. He used them for seating.
I went back to the feed store and explained the situation and the owner sold me a big bag of super-cheap rye grass seeds. I sprinkled the seeds around as instructed and watered them and prayed my brown thumb would go on a rare vacation. A few days passed and – miracle – my prayers were answered and tiny green shoots appeared.
And then one day I saw this….
