The large shell-less being here….

Tropical species such as, say, the South American redfoot tortoise, really need plenty of humidity and hydration daily to stay happy and healthy.

If conditions get too dry, lots of bad things can happen…and did happen, as I’ve shared in detail on her blog.

All that to say, here at Casa Feathers n Beak n Shells, we take tortoise bath time very seriously indeed.

Tortoise bath time – a very serious and solemn ritual here at Casa Feathers n Beak n Shells.

Even though Malti’s veterinarian tells me she only needs a good soaking every few days, she still gets one daily. Sometimes this happens outside in her outdoor habitat and sometimes it happens inside.

But either way, at least until it hits a solid 100 percent humidity outdoors in the summer, it happens.

She is getting so big now she keeps growing out of her bathing tubs in both places!

Outdoors, I make sure she can get into and out of her tub on her own. Indoors, she has a deeper tub for a more thorough soak.

When she is ready to get out, she has a very specific way of letting me know (and I always come running and let her out ASAP, except for in this video where I just had to film the cuteness first so you could see it too)….
