When I first brought Malti home, she was still so wild! At times she seemed nearly feral, looking at me suspiciously out of those tiny intense black eyes.

And then she started to grow up. She began to put two and two together on multiple levels. Specifically, she started to catch on that the large, shell-less, slavishly devoted being who kept bringing her dinner was a being she could trust.

And twist neatly around her little red-dotted paw.

She also started to develop some noticeable food preferences. Her hands-down, flat-out favorite, above and beyond all else, has always been crispy freeze-dried mealworms.

She loves them so much she will go to just about any lengths to get to them.

Literally.

Malti often scales my foot and, whenever possible, my leg to get closer to the delicious crispy mealworms in their little dish that I’m holding in my hand.
