Cohabitating on one small round blue planet with several hundred (thousand, million, billion) other beings can make life feel somewhat….crowded.

When you are a more introverted, solitary individual who is used to enjoying some considerable personal space, these conditions can naturally make you feel like retreating.

Going inward.

Powering down for awhile.

You may want to lay low, not call attention to yourself.

As battles rage, micro-organisms flourish, your larger shell-less planet-mates get all worked up about issues you can neither comprehend nor control, you may feel like the safest, smartest thing to do is pull in.

You do have a shell conveniently located right above your own head, after all.

So you pull in. You rest up for a time. You chill. You hang out….and hide out.

At least until it comes to your attention that there is a fresh and delicious clover patch over yonder….just past your immediate field of view.

If you stick your neck out just a little bit….and then just a little bit more…..and just a little further….and a little further than that….you can reach it.

And now you are out.

But now you feel better. You feel rested, refreshed and at least a little ready to re-engage with life and the challenges and opportunities it brings.

In time,  you even feel ready enough to….open wide.

Because the clover – and life itself – while scary at times – can also be delicious.

Sometimes it is worth it to throw caution to the winds and just open up wide – especially when there is fresh clover!
