Keen predators (with feathers) always have all senses on high alert for signs of prey.
This way, no matter how cleverly your lunch tries to hide, or how well-equipped it may be to defend itself, you always retain the upper hand.
Say, for instance, you are ambling along and spy a crunchy cracker safe in its hidey hole.

Once you have the prey in your line of sight, you can use the element of surprise to quickly overpower and consume it.
