As recently as this last century, featherless hunters roamed the plains in search of tasty victuals.
They carried spears…..and later, shotguns.
This, of course, is because they did not have any other means of bringing down prey.
Without keen eyesight, powerful wings, or sharp talons of their own, the best they could do was to carry artificial weapons while trying to appear as threatening as possible (which they accomplished primarily by abstaining from bathing for weeks at a time).
Luckily, not every longstanding hunting tradition is quite so unglamorous.
For example, if you happen to be descended from the all-time greatest hunters (think pre-Ice Age and you’ll be on the right track) PLUS you have keen eyesight, powerful wings, AND sharp talons, hunting any prey is a breeze.
If the prey is easily intimidated and tends to freeze in fear when it spots you, even better.
