One of the (many) wonderful aspects of being an avian is having aerodynamic, attractive wings.
With wings, you can escape predators, assert dominance over peers, and intimidate your large featherless assistant.
Sharp claws are also quite wonderful to possess.
With claws, you can secure a firm perch, claim items you desire, and intimidate your large featherless assistant.
But in the evergreen battle between “nature” and “nurture,” sometimes these two useful tools get caught in the crossfire.
For instance, sometimes instead of 8 claws, you have only 5.
And sometimes, instead of being able to grow long flight feathers on both wings, you can only grow long flight feathers on one wing.
This, of course, makes you the obvious front runner for the prestigious role of “Special Needs” Spokesbird.
Here, it can also help if you are very poised and pretty and have obvious on-camera charisma (the better with which to win new fans and supporters to your cause).

A SPECIAL NOTE FROM PEARL’S LARGE FEATHERLESS ASSISTANT: I brought Pearl home when he was still a tiny formula-fed chick. His flock mates had bitten off three of his claws and the end of his left wing. Luckily, he was smart enough to immediately hire a large featherless assistant who is slavishly devoted to him and waits on him hand and foot, carrying him wherever he needs to go!
He is the perfect spokesbird for special needs because he is perfect in every way!
