Recently, a new featherless being came home to join us here at Casa Feathers N’ Beak.

This new being was warmly welcomed by one existing member of our household (hint: it was the one who doesn’t have any feathers).

The household member who has the feathers is still, um, adjusting.

That adjustment process goes more smoothly on some days than others.

Our new addition - Malti, a featherless baby redfoot tortoise.
Our new addition – Malti, a featherless baby redfoot tortoise.

Since Malti requires all of the same “deluxe” services as the one with the feathers, this means a) the sole resident large featherless assistant is twice as busy, and b) sometimes (always) the assistant’s services must be shared.

Clearly, this arrangement is unacceptable.

My large featherless assistant thinks I can't see her over there waiting on that small shelled being. I'll just let her know this "shared service" is unacceptable.

Yes, Mom, I AM irked. How can you tell?
For every minute you spend with the small shelled being, another key will bite the dust!
The innocent victim caught in the crossfire....
That’s right, Mom. Today it’s just 2 keys. But I have a sharp beak and plenty of time.
I'll bet that small featherless being thinks I'm in trouble. Hah. She doesn't know about the power of "cuteness."

  1. Hi Pearl this is Charlie and boy do I TOTALLY understand but I have to share my featherless assistant with two other feathered beings. However, I have learned from you the TOTAL trouble erasing power of cute!! I am writing from by timeout corner at the moment but I know any minute mom will see the cuteness and how funny it was that chewed her book while she was attending on of my minions!

    1. Ahhh – I’m sure by the time Pearl and I read this you will already be out of “time out,” Charlie! Plus, books are very crispy and tasty – your mommy can’t fault you for having good taste in cuisine!
