All young beings have to learn about foraging safety.

Some have parents or flock mates who teach them, while others must go it alone.

The general rule remains the same, however – the tastier the delicacy, the more dangerous it tends to be to bring it down (on account of other hungry poachers as well as certain reluctant delicacies which, oddly, seem to prefer not to be ingested).

So it is always good to have foraging techniques that incorporate both safety and victory.

Here, a skilled forager demonstrates a proven technique called “Left, Right, Waffle.”

Right here is where so many promising predators get tripped up. First, you must look left....
Right here is where so many promising predators get tripped up. First, you must look left….
And then you must look right....
And then you must look right….
And then you need to look at the prey itself to make sure no poachers are hiding underneath it waiting to spring out at you!
And then you need to look at the prey itself to be sure it isn’t going to protest being ingested.
The fiercer you can look while doing this, the less likely any lurking poachers will be to spring.
It is always best to look as hungry and fierce as possible here to quell any brewing objections.
Only now that you have secured the prey from all angles is it safe to take a taste test.
Once you have secured the prey from all angles, you can take a taste test.
If the taste test pans out, you can begin to dine, but always keeping one wary eye trained for interlopers.
After a successful taste test, you can then dine freely!
