I’m not sure why it took me so long to discover this book.
After all, it has the word “parrot” in it.
But somehow I missed it – in fact I don’t even remember exactly how I did learn about it. I think it popped up a sidebar somewhere (probably one of those mysterious and slightly scary “cookies” that allow random giant computers to discern what’s in the teetering stack of reading material beside my bed).
At any rate, as soon as I spied the pic of a cute parrot on the cover, I was all over it.
Sarah, formerly called “Peg Leg,” was a wild-caught macaw. She lost her foot in a trap.

I really, really, really hate reading about parrot traps. I won’t get into how I feel about the traders who set them.
At any rate, Sarah was one of the lucky ones. She was adopted by Nancy Ellis-Bell, a literary agent-animal lover who brought Sarah into her warm, close, happy little family of two humans and countless non-humans (cats, dogs, racoons and, of course, parrots).
With Nancy’s love and nurturing, Sarah was finally able to recapture every parrot’s birthright – to love, to be loved and to fly free.
OMB! We have to get this for Momma. Don;t know how she missed it, too, but thank you!
You are so welcome! 🙂
