The word “friendship” has so often been claimed by human beings for our very own….but it would seem we must learn to share this great gift with our fellow beings at long last.
Thank goodness.
I picked up a copy of the book “Unlikely Friendships: 47 Remarkable Stories from the Animal Kingdom” by Jennifer S. Holland for my Dad on his birthday.
Of course, as any good daughter would, I felt obligated to read it first – just to make sure he would really like it. 🙂
As it turned out (shocker I know) I really liked it – in addition to stories of surprising friendships between divers and manta rays, hippos and tortoises, gorillas and kitten and many others, there was a wonderful variety of BIRDS featured.

My fav was the cockatoo and the cat.

This book is quite simply a treasure. Each chapter is just a page or two long, and it is filled with heartwarming pics of adorable, courageous beings of all shapes, sizes and species forming loving bonds for reasons we can only guess at.
If you, like myself, enjoy the speechless marvel of encountering all we have yet to learn about those we share this planet with, “Unlikely Friendships” will be a book you will treasure.
