The “flat top” haircut had its official heyday in the 1960’s.

Luckily, the flat top cut itself has endured right through to today, no doubt due in (large) part to how, when styled just right, this haircut creates a strip through the center top portion of the head where the scalp can show through.
This is called the “landing strip.”
So of course it just makes sense that those with feathers (as well as those without feathers) would want to adopt such a practical as well as visionary style.
