When I first met Pearl, he was crouched in a large open-air pedestal cage, covered in baby bird formula.

Apparently he saw his situation as somewhat less unglamorous than his future Mommy did.

To this day – at age 12 this year – he still enjoys being spoon-fed.

In fact, recently he has developed a taste for oatmeal (which frankly to me looks quite a lot like the glop I fed him from the chick syringe in those first weeks after I took him home).

So be it. As it turns out, a spoon-fed bird is also guaranteed to be a well-fed bird.

Awww. Look at that! Mommy is offering to spoon feed me!

Food does taste better when it is spoon-fed.

Whatever this is, it is delicious.
