Thursday Thriller: Pearl Cutts in “Muffin Matters”

Conducting live shows can be problematic on many levels. These problems just increase when the star is very famous…and has feathers.

For example, there is theater security. You want to make sure to hire security that will keep ticket holders in and paparazzi out.

Then there is the paparazzi, who can get quite creative about figuring out ways to sneak in whether they are allowed to or not.

And then there is the stubborn star himself, who simply insists on appearing live in person for his fans – and even hosting meet-and-greets for VIP fans after his shows!

Love & Feathers is proud to present the world-famous and feathery actor Pearl Cutts in his latest one-avian play:

“Muffin Matters”

Ticket holders notice security has tightened at the theater lately. When they come, even if they have been attending for years and are on a first-name basis with ushers and staff, they are asked for their IDs.

But anything is worth it to see their favorite feathery star in person, so they persevere until they are cleared to go inside for the play.

So you have come for the after-play VIP fan “meet and greet,” I see…
I must say, you sure do smell….I mean look….familiar.
And this clear, crinkly wrap you are wearing….are you sure we haven’t met somewhere previously?
Mmmmhmmm….yes, yes, it is coming back to me now –
Paparazzi! I knew it! Security…..! Wait. What’s that you say? Your name is “Muffin” and you brought this plastic bag for your favorite feathery star?
Oh, no, “Mom” – everything is just fine. Wow, someone called for security? It sure wasn’t me. Yes, this thoughtful paparazzi…I mean VIP fan….brought me a tasty plastic bag – my favorite!

At that point, the star goes back to nibbling and noshing on fresh plastic bag, completely ignoring the nonstop questions from the eager round paparazzi hidden away within….

The End.

Tuesday Gratefuls: Pearl & Shannon Share

Often feeling grateful is associated with feeling humble, such as when someone offers a small kindness after you’ve had a very hard day.

But gratitude has a powerful side too, such as when we tackle a big challenge and totally smoke it!

Or when we look into a reflective surface and feel so pretty, and then we feel so grateful for being so pretty and feeling so pretty, and then we just want to share that gratitude with everyone we see!

A very pretty flock member with feathers takes a moment to feel gratitude for prettiness before he shares his gratitude with his large featherless assistant!

As part of our New Year’s intentions, Pearl and his mommy have decided to share a weekly “gratefuls” list here each Tuesday.

Please join us if you like! 🙂

Pearl is grateful for....
  • Being born into a very cute, pretty, feathery body that makes everyone who sees him so happy and grateful.
  • Having warm, soft, insulating feathers.
  • Reflective surfaces – the better to admire prettiness in!
Shannon is grateful for...
  • Her feathery sidekick, who teaches her everyday that it is perfectly fine to think you are pretty in public!
  • Her self-possessed and confident feathers and shells, who don’t seem to struggle with any of the self-esteem issues she has faced.
  • Every time Pearl makes someone smile and brightens their day.

Monday Happys: Meetings

If there is one thing the large featherless beings don’t seem to enjoy, it is the activity called “meetings.” Since these often happen on the day called “Monday” (is it a coincidence both start with the letter “m”?), it just makes sense this day is also the least popular one.

But when you have feathers, you also have the keen vision to figure out what isn’t working about Monday meetings. For example, most meetings that happen on a  Monday don’t have any attendees with feathers to liven things up.

Also, clearly the snack planner needs some help (whoever heard of a meeting with no millet?). Finally, every attendee should be guaranteed time on the large rectangular thing with the crispy keys.

A skilled meeting planner (with feathers) offers advice on snack selection, scheduled activities and how to make Monday meetings fun again.

Presents from Parrots: Sous Chef

Parrots are very giving and generous.

Whatever they have, they want to share it.

If they love you, they want to share it even more….and share even more of it.

This means that once you welcome a being with feathers into your life, every day is like your birthday. You will get surprise presents just when you least expect them. And no two presents will ever be exactly alike!

For example, let’s say it is time to cook dinner, but you really don’t like cooking. It doesn’t help that you also aren’t talented at kitchen-related things. But with a little help from the talented sous chef with feathers, you can be serving up delicacies in no time!

A skilled feathery sous chef helps his kitchen-challenged large featherless assistant select just the right greens to accompany that evening’s dinner menu.

Thursday Thriller: Pearl Cutts in “Presidential Style”

Powerful beings can be difficult to counsel. For starters, they tend to think their own answers are the best answers.

Also, they are often too busy talking to listen to those around them.

For this reason, if you want to share new vital style information with someone powerful – say, the president of a big important piece of land – your best bet is to send in a very stylish celebrity.

(If the celebrity happens to have top secret clearance and feathers, even better.)

Love & Feathers is proud to present the world-famous and feathery actor Pearl Cutts in his latest one-avian play:

“Presidential Style”

The moment ticket holders arrive at the theater, they realize there are big doings going on.

For starters, a large number of stiff, scowling (and totally non-stylish) large featherless beings in drab outfits appear to be guarding the entrances and exits.

Also, they are given assigned seating…which makes for an unusually orderly progression into the theater!

Hello Mr. President. Yes, I am exactly who you think I am. Yes of course I would be happy to beak-o-graph your hair.
Please tell my security detail to step back so Mr. President and I can talk “off the record” about a private style….er, secret….matter.
Well now look, Mr. President Sir, have you tried growing any feathers of your own? And that didn’t work? Hmmm. Okay, let me assess the situation up close.
Affirmative. It is just as I suspected. You have no crest. Crests are very fashionable these days, you know. Well, the most stylish ones are grey and white, but we can make yellow and white work too.
Yes, of course I can help you get a crest going so you will be stylish like me. And of course we’ll keep it just between us….

The star motions to a being standing off to the side in the shadows. As that being hurries closer, the attendees see it is the mysterious entity known only as “Mom.”

After a hurried consultation, “Mom” hurries offstage again, clearly intent on some top secret errand.

The End.

Tuesday Gratefuls: Pearl & Shannon Share

When most people think of gratitude, they think of “bucket list” type things – like the “big gratefuls” pretty much everyone shares in common.

But gratitude can be quite petite as well – it can dwell in the teensiest moments, in the small kindnesses that only get noticed by those who are really looking for them.

Sometimes these are the sweetest grateful moments of all, because perceiving them takes such keen perception!

A cozy and comfy feathered flock member demonstrates gratitude for life’s most petite wonderful moments, like the warmth of his “priority” perch just inside his mommy’s blue fluffy bathrobe.

As part of our New Year’s intentions, Pearl and his mommy have decided to share a weekly “gratefuls” list here each Tuesday.

Please join us if you like! 🙂

Pearl is grateful for....
  • Warmth – so vital when the weather persists in staying so chilly outside!
  • Company – as a very vocal and social flock member, Pearl sure loves being surrounded by his flock!
  • Love – and being loved – it is just the best thing.
Shannon is grateful for...
  • The love of her feathers and shells – it is such a gift to share life with three such unique and special beings!
  • Every moment of peace in this war-torn world.
  • The chance to say “I love you” to those she loves.

Monday Happys: Finding Wonder

It is not hard to find wonder in this world. For some beings, all it takes is waking up yet again and looking in the mirror to see they are still covered in soft, downy feathers!

For other beings (specifically the ones without feathers), it can take a bit more effort. The day called “Monday” tends to be especially problematic in terms of losing the ability to wonder and not being able to find it again.

If you have feathers, Monday is a great time to locate yourself someplace unexpected – someplace your large featherless assistant would never expect to find you. Then, when she does find you again, she can remember how great wonder feels!

Here, a feathered beings hides himself in a place his large featherless assistant would never expect, just so she can feel the wonder of discovering him there!

Presents from Parrots: Garnishes

Parrots are very giving and generous.

Whatever they have, they want to share it.

If they love you, they want to share it even more….and share even more of it.

This means that once you welcome a being with feathers into your life, every day is like your birthday. You will get surprise presents just when you least expect them. And no two presents will ever be exactly alike!

One present you can expect to receive every day is garnishes. Garnishes make everyday items extra-special. Say, for example, you are drinking a hot cup of coffee. Your parrot wanders over and positions himself next to the warm cup and begins to preen.

You pick up the coffee cup to take a sip…which suddenly has more “mouth feel” than you remember it having. You look down and notice several fluffy “garnishes” floating on top of the warm liquid.

A very thoughtful feathered being selects just the right feather for his next surprise “garnish.”

Thursday Thriller: Pearl Cutts in “Many Moons Away”

As the search for extra-terrestrial life really heats up, top secret agents from every corner of the globe are being called up to investigate strange local sightings.

Cases like these take nerves of steel and ironclad confidentiality, which is why only the most covert agents are involved.

Love & Feathers is proud to present the world-famous and feathery actor Pearl Cutts in his latest one-avian play:

“Many Moons Away”

Because of health and security concerns, the usual live drama is conducted off site.

For this reason, a live satellite feed projected on a massive white screen is what greets the ticket holders when they enter the theater.

At first primed to protest, fans quickly settle down when they realize they will see their favorite feathery actor as usual – just on screen instead of in person.

Uh huh. So you are the beings I was called in to investigate, eh?
Roger that, “Mom” – yes, they seem quite docile. Yes, I pre-sharpened my beak just in case.
You say you are from “many moons away?” Can you be more specific?
No, counting up the exact number of moons away isn’t what I meant.
Let’s tackle an easier question first. You look crispy. I must test you for crispy-ness.
Yes, of course this is standard protocol. How crispy do you have to be to pass? Well, I’ll let you know here in a minute….

Just then, the being known only as “Mom” hurries onstage, pulling the curtain closed behind her.

From the other side of the curtain, fans hear a muffled dialogue followed by an irritated shriek….and then, the solitary sound of contented crunching.

The End.

Tuesday Gratefuls: Pearl & Shannon Share

Feelings of gratitude can be overpowering or very subtle. Sometimes, your gratitude can feel like an ocean wave, effortlessly carrying you to shore.

At other times, your gratitude may feel like the gentlest rain shower – so light and delicate you can barely perceive its presence.

In either case – and every place in between – gratitude is always a welcome and uplifting companion – a friend you can trust to meet you where you are and walk with you to the next step ahead on the path of life.

A feathered being demonstrates how gratitude can propel you forward – or up, as the case may be – on the path of life.

As part of our New Year’s intentions, Pearl and his mommy have decided to share a weekly “gratefuls” list here each Tuesday.

Please join us if you like! 🙂

Pearl is grateful for....
  • Being healthy and free from yucky yeast.
  • Every single time he gets his beak on something crispy and crunchy.
  • How his beak is shaped just perfectly for preening every pretty feather.
Shannon is grateful for...
  • Pearl, Malti and Bruce – her “inner flock.”
  • The gift of nature and animals to learn from and be inspired by.
  • Time – somehow it can heal even the hardest hurts to heal from!

Monday Happys: A Tail of Two Cities

The large featherless assistant here: Rover.com recently invited Pearl to be a part of their fun February photo-blog campaign “A Tail of Two Cities.” From our flock to yours – we hope you enjoy this special edition of Pearl’s “Monday Happys!”

Pearl, Malti, Bruce, their mommy, Pearl’s grandbirdparents and Flash Gordon all live in Houston, TX. We are delighted to be participating as a flock in Rover.com’s “A Tail of 20 Cities” photo-blog campaign.

Here is the flock photo we chose to share for the campaign along with a brief story about why we love living in Houston, TX! (Malti was under the couch at the time this photo was taken, and Bruce was happily hibernating).

Pearl, the Tall Tree, the Small Chef and Flash Gordon raise a glass to Houston, TX!

A Post-Hurricane Harvey Family Christmas

In this Christmas Day photo, my parents are sitting in the one-bedroom apartment where they’ve been living since August, when their lovely home of 42 years was flooded during the controlled dam release following hurricane Harvey. The day of the dam release, Mom and Dad and Flash Gordon, our dachshund puppy, were rescued by kayak at 7am, leaving behind everything they owned as their home filled up with water.

Since that time, as a family we have been immersed in a never-ending stream of FEMA paperwork, aid requests and contractor meetings. Throughout, our friends and our pets have been a source of never-ending grace, laughter and hope, and that is what we were celebrating on Christmas morning in this photo.

To me, this picture represents everything I love about our city. We are strong and resilient and we put people and pets over “stuff.” Over and over my parents have said, “This was a tragedy, but at least we are all safe.” And truly, I could spend hours telling you amazing stories about how friends and total strangers have come forward and offered my folks precious kindnesses at just the perfect moments.

I think we have a very pretty city full of beautiful scenery, interesting sights and great culture. But it is our people and our pets that make Houston feel like home to our little flock.
