According to the U.S. Army FM 7-92, Chap. 4, “reconnaissance” means:
…a mission to obtain information by visual observation or other detection methods, about the activities and resources of an enemy or potential enemy, or about the meteorologic, hydrographic, or geographic characteristics of a particular area.
So basically what this means is that if you spy “an enemy or potential enemy,” you need to get right to work gathering valuable intel.
Just like some reconnaissance experts work on the ground, others work in the air, and still others work on the water, some experts may choose to focus on just one color of enemy, just one species of potential enemy, or just one area where they do all their intel-gathering.
For instance, let’s say you have feathers, keen black eyes, a sharp curved beak, and fearsome claws…..and your favorite color is green.
This would make you the perfect choice for the death-defying task of “greens reconnaissance.”
Here, your job would be to thoroughly examine – inside and out – every green thing you find, no matter how large or small, how light or dark, how allowed or off-limits.
