Day 67: Birthdays

Occasionally one of the large featherless beings will have some personal festivities.

They call these gatherings “birthdays.”

When one of these events happens, often the other featherless beings who are in attendance will focus closely on the one being celebrated.

If this occurs, don’t worry. It is easy to fix.

All you have to do is use “cuteness” and strategic perch selection to subtly redirect everyone’s attention to the obvious (feathered) guest of honor.

To re-focus the celebration, first locate yourself on the tallest, most prominent perch you can find.
To re-focus the celebration, first locate yourself on the tallest, most prominent perch you can find. If possible, preen. A lot. Covering the dominant perch with feathers and dander clearly indicates this seat is “taken.”
Next, perch on the one who will be providing all the delicacies for the day.
Next, perch on the one who will be providing all the delicacies for the day. This is also helpful for securing the choicest portions in advance.
Then you can begin to perch on each guest in turn, inviting them to admire prettiness (thus enjoying their day even more!)
Then you can begin to perch on each guest in turn, giving them the rare chance to have their pictures taken with the prettiest attendee at the party.

Finally – and for extra emphasis – visit the featherless being who is being honored. If this particular being happens to be your Mommy, even better (she never can resist you).

If you can relocate right at the moment when they start handing the celebrant all those bags and boxes, you will be sure to get the lion's share of the attention.
