Day 91: Surviving the V.E.T.

When you were born into a feathery flock of little bullies (who bit off the end of your left wing when you were a chick), flying is a rare thing indeed.

Mostly it happens just when you least expect it.

Something startles you, you screech for your mommy, and you launch.

Suddenly, you find yourself sailing along in gorgeous, seamless flight.

Oddly, often right after this occurs, you get dragged across town for a temporary incarceration.

Your jailer typically wears a long drab-colored coat and seems unhealthily interested in the length of your nails, feathers, and beak.

(…as a side note, you feel like if that individual paid more attention to their own personal appearance and grooming, they might not feel such a need to scrutinize yours!)

Oh good lord, not this again. Mom!!

You know, that drab blue really isn't your best color.

Ahhh, that's better. If I close my eyes she goes away!

....or not. Crap.
….or not. Crap.
The carnage. Where is the paparazzi when you really need them?!

Did that look fun to you, Mom? I didn't think it was fun at all!

But did you see me? I was FIERCE!!! I didn't go down without a fight!

I know, Grandma! It was SO awful. But then I bit her so hard....check out my right wing and you'll see her blood on my feathers!

Oh that's perfect, Grandpa. Yes, that's the spot where she really got me - would you believe she wanted one of my feathers for herself!? Something about a "blood sample"...the nerve.
