Day 317: Claim Staking

In the old West, if a new arrival wanted something – say, a piece of land, a stretch of river to mine for gold, a goat – they would first have to do something called “staking their claim.”

Even those new to the art of “staking” could prioritize desirable items based on how interested others seemed to be in those items.

Happily, this technique is still as useful today as it was back then.

Gosh, I wonder what all this is.
Gosh, I wonder what all this stuff is.
Let me just take a look to see if I can identify any of these items.
Let me just take a look to see if I can identify any of these items.
So far I'm not seeing anything I simply must have.
So far I don’t recognize a thing.
But wait a minute....here comes my large featherless assistant with the small shelled being.
But wait a minute….here comes my large featherless assistant with the small shelled being.
They are making a beeline for this exact pile I am standing on.
They are making a beeline for this exact pile I am standing on.
This must mean they plan to claim these items for themselves.
They also look very eager to reach it. So I’d better go ahead and claim it just in case.
Mine. Mine, Mom. These, um, things are already claimed.
MINE. Mine, Mom. My desirable claimed, um, items.
