Here at Casa Feathers n Beak, reading is a flock-wide tradition.
While some of us like to focus on the words on the page, while others of us prefer to focus on the crispiness of those pages, it is safe to say no book entering this household lacks for attention.
So Pearl thought it would be a great idea to combine his literary knowledge with his mommy’s typing skills to offer a “book o’ the week” review – just in time for your weekend reading list!
This week, the book is “Alex & Me” by Dr. Irene Pepperberg.
Pearl’s review: If there is one clear take-away from this book, it is that grey-and-white is definitely the best color combination for feathers. There are also some great techniques for establishing and maintaining flock dominance. Of course, for the best primer on that topic (or any topic, for that matter), I highly recommend this book.
His mommy’s review: Dr. Pepperberg and her African Grey parrot, Alex, have been true pioneers and advocates for parrot intelligence. Who knows where the field would be today without them! I have read and re-read and re-read this book, as has the entire flock (including the Small Tree and the Tall Tree). It helps us to better understand Pearl’s needs and how to meet them and make his life as happy and productive as possible.
With love (& feathers),
Shannon & Pearl
