Popping out of your small round white escape pod for the first time can be a bit of a shocker.

You’ve got to get to know yourself. Take stock. Call roll. Do an inventory.

So, okay.

Maybe first you notice you’ve got claws. Claws are good.

You have a shell on your back. Oh, and – cool. It seems the shell is hinged so you can close all of your sweet and scrumptious self up in it.

That might come in handy some day. Or even today right around lunch time.

You have cold blood, which means both the sun and the shade are your new best friends.

You can see in ultraviolet colors and geolocate to find your way around.

And you are a touch on the shy side…at least until you get to know somebody.

This is you.

Truth: “you” might not be for everybody.

But you are just right for you.

And when you love your own small, shelled, box turtle self, this gives you the brave you need to let others love you too.

Step 1: love yourself. Step 2: let others (like your large, shell-less rescue mama) love you, too.
