In the eyes of the world, you may be a successful CEO with feathers.
You have your own blog. You’ve co-authored two books. Everyone wants your beak-o-graph.
Clearly, you are a mover and shaker, a flapper and high-flier, someone who has a well-feathered nest and is even now leaving an inspiring legacy for future generations of eggs.
And then along comes your large featherless mama.
What does she see when she looks at you? Not a famous and feathery actor with legions of VIP fans or an (alleged) elite “black ops” field agent whose legend precedes him…..
Oh no. All she sees is an adorable grey downy chick.
She sees the five-week-old you, mortifyingly covered in clumpy brown baby bird formula from crest to chest, pin feathers sticking out all over your body so you look more like a baby porcupine than a baby parrot….
Oh yes. And no matter how dashing and dapper you are now or how suave and sophisticated you seem in front of the ladybirds, in your mommy’s eyes you will always be her baby chick, her precious and perfect one, her soul bird.

Do you remember the first time you and your precious love met?
Wonderful post Shannon. I truly love this post and it is going in my “keeper” folder. My 25 year old Rainbow passed last week and for all his life he was my baby, the little one I raised who loved to snuggle on my shoulder when I was on the computer. Thanks for writing this.
Ohhhh Mary – so many prayers of comfort to you in Rainbow’s time of transition. 🙏 A quarter century of shared life – what a gift to you both.
