Pearl’s mommy (aka the large featherless being) here.
Poised on the brink of (yet another) New Year, I just have to take this chance to say it.
There are some moments in nearly every day when I look over and see a small parrot preening nearby on his perch.
And I think, “OMG – there’s a real live PARROT in my house!”
Talk about luck!! 🙂
I have always loved parrots. I can still feel the wild soul of each (domestically born and raised) companion parrot I’ve ever shared my life with, and I marvel that they permit their featherless caretaker so many liberties in the name of loving and being loved.
Because Pearl is a “special needs” cockatiel (his left wing is permanently stunted, and he is missing three of his eight claws) he has had to permit more liberties than most.
He does this with such grace. He allows me to carry him everywhere. He calls for me when he needs help or wants to move. He dips his neck so I can scratch itchy vulnerable neck feathers. He is an enthusiastic participant in my daily life, even if that day’s scheduled activities are not to his particular preference.
What a miracle Pearl is.
What a miracle that I get to share my life with a bona fide tiny hookbill, feathers, beak, claws, wings, beautiful wild soul and all.
In other words, every New Year is a great one when it is full of FEATHERS.
From Pearl (and his adoring Mommy) – Happy almost New Year to YOU! 🙂
