Day 311: Extreme Hip Climbing

In the world of “extreme sports,” many enthusiasts don’t have any wings.

Yet they still (er) flock in droves to participate in sports activities with names like “sky diving,” “wind surfing,” and “paragliding” (this last where you strap yourself to something called a “wing” and wait for a gust of wind to do what it does best).

Of course, when you are lucky enough to already have wings, it is only the polite thing to do to refrain from such pursuits to give others a chance to shine.

But you can still enjoy the spirit of “extreme” sports through an activity called “extreme hip climbing.”

This challenges you to navigate sans wings….and offers the added enjoyment of many “oohs” and “aahs” from your doting fans.

I'm in the mood to do some "extreme hip climbing."
I’m in the mood to do some “extreme hip climbing.”
I will start by displaying my precise beak-to-surface coordination by hoisting myself into position.
I will start by displaying my precise beak-to-surface coordination by hoisting myself into position.
In a daring display, I will twist to the left mid-climb - without using my wings.
I call this daring mid-hip maneuver, “Look, Ma, no wings!”
I'll just twist to the right now (and pause so my fans can take pics).
I can tell my fans really liked that one. I’ll do it one more time so they can take more pics.
Now a second hoist back into position....again, without using my powerful feathery wings.
Now I’ll perform a second hoist back into position….again, without using my powerful wings.
Now I will demonstrate the universal signal all extreme hip climbers use when they are finished: it is called "Mommy, I want up now."
I feel finished with today’s demonstration. I will just give my large featherless assistant the universal signal for “I want up.”
