In “Feathering the Nest, Part 1,” we covered the basics of how to lure ladybirds with expert materials selection, collection, and defense.
Here in Part 2, we will review the basics of candidate presentation – as in, how to look as manly and masculine and also as pretty and cute as possible while feathering your nest.
Where is my large featherless photography assistant? Oh, there you are, Mom – I’m ready!I’ll begin the shoot by displaying “fierce masculinity.”More subtle “fierce masculinity?” Good idea, Mom – we don’t want to scare the ladybirds away!Next I’ll do “nurturing cuteness” so the ladybirds can visualize me standing guard over the chicks. Now one more shot of “fierce masculinity” to display my nest-guarding skills. For this shot I’ll display “cute prettiness” – to help the ladybirds visualize what their chicks will look like!Let’s do one more of “cute prettiness” – just for good measure.Okay, maybe just one more…..ladybirds can never get enough “cute prettiness!”You’re afraid we will overload the ladybirds with too much cuteness and prettiness? Good point – I’ll stop here and take a waffle break (waffles are the best for keeping manly feathers glossy!)
