Being a box turtle means you can carry your home with you wherever you decide to go.

But it isn’t just any home you are carrying.

Your home is extra-secure.

Once you decide to head indoors, you can use your super-strong shell muscles to close up tight on both sides – so tight that predators have no choice but to find someone else to serve for dinner that night!

However, even being able to lock yourself up like Fort Knox isn’t going to help when you need to go somewhere.

At that point, the only thing for it is to unlock everything, stick your head, your tail and all four of your adorable (delicious) legs back out and hoof it under your own steam.

Unless, that is, you can get a lift.

For instance, let’s say you are in the mood to do some hunting in your secure outdoor play area. To get from here (your habitat) to there (your play area) is quite a hike and right out in the open at that.

So you decide to catch a ride with your large shell-less rescue mama. Gathering up every ounce of your considerable courage, you order shuttle service to securely transport you to your favorite hunting grounds.
