Bruce Explains Box Turtles: Camo

When Bruce was first rescued to us nearly two years ago, he was both very self-assured and very shy.

He was self-assured in that he seemed to know exactly what he wanted and needed. For his first week with us, he refused to stay in his temporary tub, but lived underneath a rolling file cabinet in his mama’s then-home office, snoozing there and spending his days surveying his new territory from atop a large stuffed alligator.

He would wake us up at 7am each morning, banging his head against the gate that kept him inside the office until I would get up and go sit with him behind the gate and just talk to him for awhile.

Even now, he is very fond of camouflage. Sometimes when I go to look for him in his outdoor enclosure, he is literally right in front of my eyes and I still can’t see him!

And remember…..
