It’s never been any secret that Bruce, our little flock’s rescued box turtle member, is an avid hunter. Which makes sense, considering that when our paths first crossed, he was foraging for his dinner in the suburban “wild” and was very, very hungry.
Malti, on the other hand…..this little princess has never missed a meal. Mostly, those meals are chopped up into dainty “little tort” sized bites and sit politely in a stationary position on her dish waiting to be chomped.
The first time I offered her a live prey (borrowed from Bruce’s stash), she looked at it, and then looked at it some more….and that was the end of that. She went right back to snacking on the much more docile selection waiting in her dish.
But then one day this past week I brought home a lovely stash of fresh, live earthworms, courtesy of a local park’s fishery.
Bruce, of course, couldn’t dispatch his fast enough. On a whim, I dropped one into Malti’s enclosure and right underneath her cute little face.
WOW. All I can say is – WOW.
